We have a pool in our backyard, so Saturdays and Sundays at our house in the warmer months usually involve a lot of people in the backyard, hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, and cozy bonfires once the sun goes down. I cherish those summer mornings when I can sit in the backyard, reading a book and enjoying the quiet before the day really gets going.
At the beginning of every pool season, I make sure to stock up on items that I know we’ll go through during the summer. That includes filling the pantry with enough ketchup and mustard for #alloftheburgers, bug spray and s’mores stuff for the late nights that end around a bonfire, and sunscreen in case anyone forgets theirs. (You’d be amazed at how much sunscreen we go through!) Since there are kids of all ages (including 35 year old men) around the pool all summer, I only buy sunscreen that has at least SPF 15, and it needs to also provide UVA and UVB protection. (PSA: you should also be reapplying at least every two hours.) I don’t want anyone leaving my house with skin the color of a boiled lobster!
P.S. Did you know that most people only apply 1/4 to 1/2 of the recommended amount of sunscreen?
