Birthday Promises

September 23, 2015

I have kind of a big birthday coming up a little over a week, and as I count down the days, I’m making a promise to myself to use this birthday as an excuse to start fresh in some areas of life.

GET RID OF THE CLUTTER

Whether it’s the pile of clothes I haven’t tried on yet in the corner of the bedroom or the stack of mail on my desk that I need to go through, I am vowing to get rid of the clutter in my life. I keep reading about how minimalism can make a huge difference in relieving stress, and I am 100% ready to let go of things that we just don’t need. I may have to call on a couple of friends to come over and help me part with things, but I keep trying to remind myself that if we move in the near future, I would much rather do a clean out now than then.

BE MORE PRESENT

I have a really hard time sitting still (seriously, I can’t even sit still to watch TV most of the time), so I am going to make a conscious effort to be more present in everything that I do. That means putting the phone away when I’m at brunch with friends and actually watching a movie so I can remember what happened in it.

GET HEALTHY

I have a serious addiction to baked goods, which I don’t think is ever going to 100% go away, but I really could make a better effort to eat better and take better care of myself. I’ll get into a really good routine of going to the gym, but then once I stop, I stop for months at a time (Fact: Last night after jogging a short distance, I checked the last time I had run, and it was almost exactly 2 months ago. So bad.)

And here’s your permission to call me out if you see me doing otherwise!

I too have that same problem of not being able to be fully present in the moment. I always keep going back to my phone, and it's so annoying because I miss out on what's going on right in front of me. Working on that this fall for sure!

It's so important, especially when the winter has you stuck inside (like here in Boston)!

It's hard sometimes, isn't it? I never thought I would have to work at just "being" there!

If we all put our phones off the table, we can all be present! Strength in numbers 🙂

These a great fall goals! Fall kind of seems like a great time for renewal and commitment. Have you read the The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying up? It's kind of annoying at times, but I found the book extremely helpful. I went through my entire apartment and go rid of anything that didn't bring me joy. Felt so good after it!

I found you on the link-up. With more time inside, I'm looking forward to some de-cluttering this fall as well!

Such good goals! I need to declutter as well—I'm moving in a few months, and it makes more sense to do it now rather than moving everything and THEN decluttering 😛 Also totally feel you on the love of baked goods—maybe find little, healthier replacements for the treats you love?

You should really read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I just moved into a new place and as I was unpacking I kept thinking to myself, "Why in the world did I keep this?" After reading the book, I went on a major clean binge and got rid of so much stuff. It felt great!

Love all of your goals! Being present and healthier are some of my goals too!

Great goals! Cutting the baked good habit is so tough. You just gotta do what's right for you, whether it's reducing the amount of muffins (oh my gosh I love muffins) or just cutting it out completely for a while. But I totally understand that struggle!

These are great goals. I really am starting to work hard on getting healthy too. As I get a little older I realize how important taking care of yourself is.

    Oh, and happy earlier birthday
