Good Books to Read Now

April 26, 2020

I’ve always loved reading, and while I don’t have as much time for it now as I used to, I love sharing good finds in case you are looking for a good book!

Some of these are what I would call “beach reads” and others are a bit heavier.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
A young teenager moves to Alaska with her family to start a new life. It’s heavier than a beach read, but it’s well worth the read. I’ve never been to Alaska, but the descriptions of natural beauty and we’re-all-in-this-together neighbors makes me want to take a trip there. I thought the characters in this book were well-developed, especially the 13 year old daughter whose family suffers from domestic violence at the hands of her veteran father, and the Alaskan homesteader named “Large Marge.”

Tending Roses by Lisa Wingate (also wrote one of my favorite books, Before We Were Yours)
This is a really sweet story about a family. I don’t know how else to describe it other than to say that if you’ve ever had an older person in your life who has taught you a lot, you’ll appreciate this story.

We Came Here to Forget by Andrea Dunlop
I could not put this one down! (Except I had to, because toddlers won’t wait while you finish a chapter.) You know how sometimes you read a book and then you’re wondering where the characters are now, as if they’re real people? This was one of those books for me. I’m planning to read She Regrets Nothing next, another one by the same author.

Between Sisters by Kristin Hannah
The essential story about two sisters who don’t get along but eventually learn to love each other! There’s heartbreak, there’s a mom who doesn’t understand her daughters, there are hot men. Beach read for sure!

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
I read this one a few months ago when everyone and their mother was picking it up. It’s a really interesting story, weaving together a murder mystery, a growing-up story, and a

The Sea Glass Sisters by Lisa Wingate
I started reading this after I finished Tending Roses. I loved Before We Were Yours so much that I was hoping another of Lisa Wingate’s books would be as good. I’d consider this book a beach read for sure. It’s the story of a girl who takes a road trip with her mother to the seaside town where her aunt lives, just in time for a disastrous hurricane to hit.
